The Meeting House |

Once upon a time in Kitty Hawk, people from five counties came by boat, by horse and buggy and on foot to the church where God was moving. Because of the expense and effort required to travel so far in the first few decades of the twentieth century, they came and stayed for a long week-end. Tables made of saw horses and planks were set up on the ridge behind the church and for days people worshipped, fellowshipped and feasted. The church was built by the Primitive Baptist congregation in the community and was known simply as The Meeting House . |

By the end of the century, the congregation had dwindled to a few aging members and the building was returned to the owner of the land on which it sat. It was then given to Creative Ministries. Our vision is to restore the sanctuary (bringing it up to code) and retain its character and flavor as we outfit it for a ministry area fit ted for the twenty-first century. We will add on a backstage area, and an additional wing for bathrooms, kitchen and our office suite. Our goal is for the building to be used by God’s people to offer His unfailing love in our community. By offering outreach programs (produced by our staff and other groups with a similar vision) such as day camps, concerts, dramas, and other multimedia presentations, and by providing a place for qualified leaders in the community to offer courses or ministry, we hope to impact the area for the Lord in a significant way. Since The Circus Tent ceased operating in 1988, there has been a need for an interdenominational place of ministry. People will come to us who won’t enter a church. We plan to be waiting with God’s love! A $400,000+ project, we feel that the time is right. The need for such a place of ministry is great. As we see the building restored to the use for which it was intended and equipped for ministry now, we are believing God for a great harvest! |

Phase One, a new roof, was completed in early 2006. As we prepare for the next step—stabilizing the floor to make the building safe, groups are already waiting to use The Meeting House for outreach to the tourists, the thousands of international who students work in our area each year, and to youth and children in our area. |
